Learning Levels Classes
Affectionately abbreviated to “Colors Class”, these classes meet once per week for an hour. This series is only $100/month! Each level takes approximately 8 weeks to complete. We have new groups starting periodically throughout the year, so feel free to reach out to join in!
Adding Horse Sense Learning Levels — our structured, unmounted group classes — to our horseback riding lesson program is essential for creating well-rounded, safe equestrians. These classes build a foundation of knowledge, skills, and habits that translate directly to better performance and safer practices in the saddle.
Why unmounted group classes matter
Core knowledge: Riders learn horse behavior, basic equine anatomy, tack identification, and grooming techniques in a focused setting. Understanding how a horse thinks and what its body needs reduces miscommunication and prevents common safety issues.
Improved communication: Groundwork classes teach riders how to use clear, consistent cues and body language. That clarity makes transitions to riding smoother and reduces confusion for both horse and rider.
Confidence-building: Group settings let learners observe peers, ask questions, and practice without the added pressure of being on a moving animal. That supportive environment accelerates learning and helps nervous riders become calmer and more competent. Group classes foster respect for barn etiquette, shared responsibilities, and collaborative problem-solving.
Consistent progress tracking: The Horse Sense Learning Levels provide a clear curriculum and milestones. Instructors and students can track growth in knowledge and practical skills, ensuring readiness before advancing to more challenging work.
Group dynamics for all ages and levels: Lessons are adaptable — from young beginners learning basic horse care to advanced students learning equine first aid and nutrition.
Outcomes you can expect
Fewer accidents and mishandling incidents due to better understanding of horse behavior and safer routines.
More confident, independent riders who can participate in barn life responsibly.
Knowledge gained regarding equine health, first aid, breeds/types, trailer safety, tack fitting, pasture management, and so much more.
Skills gained such as tying safety knots, correctly blanketing a horse, applying bandages, lunging horses, catching horses in a herd, etc.
Increased compassion for the horses who partner with us in our riding journey.
A stronger safety culture at our barn as riders, parents, and staff share a common language and expectations.
Incorporating Horse Sense Learning Levels into our horseback riding program is an investment in rider safety, skill, and confidence. These unmounted group classes create the knowledge base and habits that let riders get the most out of their time in the saddle while keeping everyone — horses and humans alike — safer and more successful.
